In 1999, David Sampliner was a Ph.d candidate in U.S. history
at New York University; Tim Nackashi had started his own internet
design company and had directed music videos for bands in
Athens, GA. By the spring of 2000, David had moved to
Athens, and without any formal training in filmmaking, David
and Tim decided to follow the subjects of "Dirty Work."
They completed the film in 2003, and in 2004 it played at
the Sundance Film Festival, Full Frame Documentary Film Festival,
Silverdocs, among others, and won Best Documentary at the
Atlanta Film Festival.
David has since moved back to New York City,
where he directed a film for the Presbyterian church on the
issue of gay/lesbian ordination. He is now a field producer/shooter
on an MTV documentary called "First Year," and is
plotting his next feature documentary project.
Tim is currently directing his next documentary,
set in Atlanta, GA, about people who are immersed in live-action
role-playing games. He also works as a documentary editor
and film score composer.
